Our Review of Brooklyn Bedding’s Aurora Mattress

Brooklyn Bedding, a veteran among many new bed-in-a-box companies, sent us their Aurora mattress, a luxury hybrid mattress made of both foam and coils. This mattress can be ordered in soft, medium or firm and I chose a medium. Overall, this mattress is a fantastic option for people who are looking for a mattress that sleeps cool and gives a good bounce.

Brooklyn Bedding owns the factory where they produce their mattresses, allowing them to control the manufacturing process and offer a reasonable price for their products. The Brooklyn Aurora is the highest-end mattress from their entire line up. The mattress arrived compressed in a box and it took two people to carry it upstairs to our bedroom. Opening the mattress and setting it up was fun and easy!

When you lay down on the Aurora mattress, it has an extremely plush, cloud-like feeling. As a side sleeper, I like that my shoulder and hip sink into the mattress to provide good pressure relief. Back and stomach sleepers would find a firm mattress more supportive of their sleeping position. Since the Aurora can be ordered in soft, medium and firm, this mattress would work well for side, back and stomach sleepers.

Those who share a bed are often concerned about edge support since they want to use the entire surface of the bed. Many bed-in-a-box mattresses don’t perform well when it comes to edge support, but the Aurora did not disappoint; the edge construction was excellent. There is some motion transfer when two people share this bed, which is typical with materials that provide such good responsiveness and spring. The Aurora’s really shines when it comes to its cooling qualities; the TitanFlex foam is specifically engineered to keep sleepers cool. In addition, the eight inches of coils near the bottom of the mattress allows for good airflow.

The mattress is comprised of six different layers. The cover is made of silica-infused rayon and polyester. Silica is infused into the mattress to help it pass flame tests; it is an excellent fire retardant. Just beneath the cover is 1.5 inches of TitanFlex foam, a propriety substance that feels like latex. This responsive layer of foam helps so that you do not feel “stuck” in the mattress. This layer is extremely plush and makes the mattress feel quite soft, even though it is of medium firmness. Beneath that layer is two inches of medium firm TitanFlex foam, which lends good support to the sleeper.  Beneath the TitanFlex foam is a one inch layer of gel memory foam, which helps with motion transfer. Under the gel memory foam are eight inch, individually pocketed coils. The base of the mattress is one inch of highly dense poly foam, which lends stability to the base of the mattress.
