Overall Impressions
Avocado is a very good choice for eco-minded back and stomach sleepers since it is quite firm and it uses materials with prestigious environmental certifications. A plush pillow top can be ordered as an optional upgrade to make the mattress’s profile higher and to give extra cushion. I ordered the topper and loved how much I sank into the mattress! Side sleepers who like a more plush surface would enjoy this upgrade. I am very sensitive to pressure in my hips and the this mattress offered good pressure relief.
Construction
This mattress features GOLS organic certified latex, GOTS organic certified wool, GOTS organic certified cotton and up to 1,414 pocketed support coils. No polyester, polyurethane foams or toxic fire retardants are used. You can also choose a vegan mattress that is made without wool.
Motion Transfer
I slept on this mattress next to my husband and the motion transfer was minimal. I did not feel much movement while I was asleep, and I am a light sleeper.
Off-Gassing
I smelled absolutely no off-gassing when I opened this mattress and this is due to the fact that this mattress uses such pure, organic materials.
Edge Support
The edge of this bed only compressed a bit when I sat directly on it, but couples will find that they can use the entire surface of the bed for sleeping because there is no compression when you lay flat on the mattress. If you order topper, you lose a bit of edge support but I was still comfortable while sleeping on it.
Does it Sleep Hot?
The Avocado slept very cool; the cover was remarkably breathable and did not trap heat.
Sustainability
This company has an impressive list of environmental certifications. Their products use materials that carry the prestigious GOTS and GOLS certifications. Their finished products are GreenGuard Gold certified, which rigorously tests for off-gassing. Their fibers hold the USDA Organic seal and their latex carries the Eco-Institut’s seal. Their rubber plantations in India are FSC certified. Their mattress has net-zero carbon emissions since they use wind and solar to power their factory. Lastly, their materials are screened for ingredients known harmful chemicals, bioaccumulation, persistence, and general and aquatic toxicity, including behavioral toxins, carcinogens, developmental toxins, endocrine disruptors, fire retardants, heavy metals, neurotoxins and high-risk pesticides.
