Every time I tell someone that I am a mattress reviewer, I am asked about memory foam. This contouring, supportive material sure is a crowd-pleaser! However, some of the drawbacks of memory foam is its expense and that it can sleep hot. The Amerisleep AS3 mattress is a budget-friendly, cool sleeping memory foam!

Sleeping on the Amerisleep
Sleeping on the Amerisleep mattress was an excellent experience for me as a combination sleeper. Since this mattress is of medium firmness, my shoulders and hips could sink into the mattress, allowing my spine to stay aligned while I sleep on my side. I also felt supported on my back. Instead of sleeping on top of the mattress, you will feel like you are sleeping in the mattress because it has a good “hug” to it. However, I definitely did not feel “stuck” in the mattress. It offered quite good pressure relief in my hips, which are quite sensitive when sleeping on my side. If you are an exclusive stomach or back sleeper, you may prefer their firmer model.
Unboxing
The Amerisleep AS3 mattress comes in a very heavy duty box that stood up to the stress of shipping very well. The mattress comes compressed and vacuum-sealed in plastic. Unboxing and unrolling the mattress with a friend was easy and fun! It took two minutes for it to puff up and take its shape. In about two hours, it was in perfect condition.
Construction
The AS3 bed layers are:
- Top layer is 3 inches of 4 lb. density bio-based memory foam
- Transition layer is 2 inch transition of 1.65 lb. density polyfoam
- Base layer is 7 inches of 1.8 lb. density polyfoam.
Motion Transfer
I slept on this mattress next to my husband and there was absolutely no motion transfer, which is a wonderful feature of memory foam.
Off-Gassing
I smelled only a little off-gassing when I opened this mattress, which is probably due to the fact that they use Certi-Pur foam.
Edge Support
When you sit directly on the side of the Amerisleep AS3 mattress it does compress, which is typical for an all-foam bed. However, in comparison to other all-foam beds, it was more supportive. When I laid on the mattress near the edge, I felt just as supported as I did in the middle. You will be able to use the entire surface of the mattress for sleeping, which is excellent for couples.
